We row in the same boat debate camp organised by DIA

From 3-7 July 2023, youth leaders and staff members of the Centre Youth Association had the opportunity to participate in the summer youth debate camp organised by the Democratic Youth Foundation (DIA).

This year the debate camp took place at the Cuha-Tábor in Bakonybánk where to among many the Alliance of Student Self-Governments of Hajdú-Bihar County (HABIDISZ) Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Student Self-Government (JNSZDÖK) and the Miskolc City Student Self Government (MiDÖK) youth went there.

In addition to jointly defining rules and preparing for group work, participants were able to express their opinions together, learn from mistakes and continuously improve.

Among other things, the young people learned the basics, rules and forms of formal debate, and were also given the opportunity to try their hand at a live Karl Popper debate, where they discussed whether today's children should play more than learn. They had to argue together for and against exciting topics, and stand up to each other in the battle of words. In the open air, students could also participate in group work, quadrilateral and bipolar debates.

Of course, it was not only about developing debating skills, but also about playing sports games as a leisure activity, and an excursion to the Archabbey of Pannonhalma, where two groups of students were able to explore interesting parts of the church. In addition to the indoor programme, the organisers also surprised the DÖK members with a guided tour of the monastery. On the last night, the participants in the debate project let off steam and said goodbye to each other with a rousing Just Dance party.
